I was at the Vetern hospital her in the US and there was a WWII veteran there using a cane and still not steady on his legs. When he was done filling out his paperwork he got up to hand it in and I got up and took it and handed it in. I also shook his hand and told him with a smile thank you for your service. He turned and thank you for your service. I meet Nahla in 2018 as she cycled across America for Acts of Kindness and I cycled across for disabled veterans. Miss you and keep up the wonderful work you are doing.

In 2005 my Indian friend and Rotary contact in India came to me in Lincoln and gave me his father's hand-crafted in gold Rotary pin badge. This was recognising the 16 projects I had been involved in in India. This has been very precious to me. But my years are advancing and I am sending it to another contact, Dickson in Meru, Kenya. With his help my Rotary club has helped on 10 different ways in his area. The photo shows me handing the pin to Caroline Newton chair of the charity, Friends of Kianjai Kenya, who will present the pin to Dickson next week

Out shopping one day I say a young woman with her dog. The dog had just pooped on the pavement and the woman obviously had no bag to pick it up with. She was looking depserate and taking out her phone, I assume to call someone for help. I was able to get across the road to her and let her have a poop bag that I always have in my pockets. The look on her face was shear relief. So glad I was able to bring a bit of stress release to someone.
On the very hot day Nahla was breaking another Guiness World Record on her Elliptico, I received a parcel via one of our young posties. As I opened the door, I realised that she was really upset so I asked her if she was OK. She burst into tears and spilled out all the problems she had. It was a tale of accumulating disasters some big, some small which had contributed to her bumping the post van and doing some damage. I listened we chatted and I gave her a big hug and then tried to calm her by getting her to slow down her breathing and making a simple plan of what to do next. She went off to phone her Dad (also a postie) and sort out the most immediate problem. The next day our regular postie (who happens to be her boyfriend) stoped to say thankyou for listening to her. |
